ABOUT LONG
| In 1922, Erst Long, Sr. founded Tippah Wholesale Company in Ripley, Mississippi.
Selling groceries, general merchandise, hardware and other supplies, the business
quickly grew. In the 1940s, another warehouse was opened in Corinth, Mississippi
under the name Alcorn Wholesale. Sons Erst Long, Jr. and Raiford Long became active
in the business following their service in WWII. Then in 1964, the Sturges Company
was purchased in Meridian, Mississippi and the service territory was expanded.
Along the way, three new warehouses were built, two in Meridian (1972 & 2001) and one in Corinth (1980). Other distributors were merged into operations over the years including Corr-Williams Wholesale of Meridian (mid 80s) and, most recently, Hattiesburg Grocery Company (2002). |

Throughout the years, our business has been family owned and operated. Erst Long
Jr. remains President of a fourth generation family management team at both
warehouse locations. Sam Long and Ray Long are executive officers of Long
Distribution Meridian along with vice presidents, Trey Long (Rays son)
and Barnes Marshall (Erst Longs grandson). In Corinth, Randy Long serves as
executive vice president. With the help of great employees, Long Distribution has evolved from a general store supplier, delivering orders with a horse and wagon, to one of the largest convenience store suppliers in the South. Though todays convenience stores bear little resemblance to customers from the 1920s, the basics of customer satisfaction remain the same. An authentic commitment to putting the customer first is the key to our success. |
